I am using Windows 10 64bits and windows 7 32bits.Īm I doing something where did you get the PicConverter that you are using from? From the Files archive on the Darklands Group,, or from Wendigo's git repo?Īlso, did you get the ReadMe with instructions on how to use? If not, I've included it here for your convenience here: Originally posted by kekito666:atcen, I am trying to use the PicConverter program but when I run the file it opens a console window and quickly closes. (Unfortunately, our current hosting service groups.io does not provide a way to allow non-member access to these, even with a premium subscription like ours.) Anyway, as I said, we'd love to see you there!

This group is free to join, and you don't even have to be a member to read all the messages going back to the beginning however, you do have to be a member to post messages and access the large collection of uploaded files, utilites, and such posted over the years by members. This group has been in continuous use since its creation in 1998 by original Darklands FAQ co-founder Alsandor: ONEList -> eGroups -> Yahoo!Groups -> Groups.io. You are already in touch with Wendigo I can easily connect you with Quadko too, if you like.įinally, if you aren't already, I really encourage you to join us on the Darklands discussion group on Groups.io ( ). Both of these sites have lots other things related to the game as well. Merle's original site detailing his work is no longer online, but it has been preserved on the Darklands Domain (, ), and on Wendigo's Darklands page ( ). One thing to be aware of, however, is the use of a palette file in conjunction with them, which Quadko has documented.įor the most part resource file formats for the game were reverse engineered by Merle, with additional work by Quadko and Wendigo (and a couple of others). I've been thinking for a long time that replacing some of the less-than-finished artwork would be a great project to take on. Quadko has created a utility for converting back and forth between MPS PIC and BMP. I think there are reasonable workarounds, though. This was before DB driven game design, so these things are hard-coded in many respects. Yes, that's absolutely correct about the limits and the character sets.
